Today is the first day of work, and I received my first assignment to configure and install the various flavours of Ubuntu on two small computers. While setting them up, I downloaded the iso file of normal Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, and after this was finished the 7.04 version of Kubuntu. I decided to set up Ubuntu first since I am already familiar with the Gnome interface, and I prefer it over KDE (this, however, could change). Kubuntu is still downloading, and I have so far installed Ubuntu on one of the computers. I have set up the desktop with icons of Firefox, the OpenOffice word processor, spreadsheet creator, and presentation creator. In addition, I downloaded the Debian install file of FirstClass, and installed that as well, and added that icon to the desktop. The way I have configured the desktop allows a student to easily access the programs they will use the most. I still have to include extensions such as Flash and add more repositories that will allow the student to use the computer as they normally would a school computer. In addition, Edubuntu and Xubuntu remain to be tested.
